What can Cosmetic Dentistry do for you? Dr. XX's Cosmetic Dentistry patients report that their smile makeovers have made them feel more confident, changed their outlook, made them more ready to smile and even resulted in career advancement.
The location of the Vancouver Centre Dental Clinic in the Scotia Tower in downtown Vancouver means that XX's dental patients are primarily working-class professionals who are concerned with punctuality. XX is a reliable Vancouver dentist: he has geared his dental practice towards such individuals, who are consistently pleased with his promptness. In addition to punctuality, he is interested in promoting dental care that has longevity, rather than just cosmetic appeal: he is clearly unique compared to other dentists in Vancouver because, rather than jumping on the bandwagon of the "newest" and "latest" crazes in dental care, XX would rather use dental methods that are tried and true.
As a dentist in downtown Vancouver, he is committed to learning and applying the best in technological developments in modern dentistry and to incorporating these developments in a safe, welcoming environment. XX understands that taking good care of his patients is the bottom line - his practice has flourished only because, as a professional dentist, he works with his patients to offer sound advice, expert care, and skilled treatment.

"Oral hygiene is a basic factor for oral health. Poor oral hygiene leads to dental plaque-collections, which in turn can cause gingivitis eventually leading to periodontal diseases. That is why many clinical studies have been carried out focusing on the role of oral hygiene in the prevention and control of oral diseases.
Dental plaque is defined as the soft adherent structured deposits, which forms on the tooth surface. It consists of a mixed bacterial flora, sometimes with desquamated epithelial cells and migrated polymorphonuclear leukocytes. It is not and should not be confused with food debris." Read more
2. "Pulpal pain is spontaneous, strong, often throbbing, exacerbated by temperature, and outlasts the evoking stimulus. Localization is poor, and pain tends to radiate to the ipsilateral ear, temple, or cheek. The pain may abate spontaneously, but the patient should still be referred for dental advice because the pulp has probably necrosed, and acute periapical periodontitis (dental abscess) will probably follow. Endodontics (root canal treatment) or tooth extraction is required." Read more
How to Repair a Smile
Are you afraid to smile? Would you rather take the picture instead of be in it, because you are too self-conscious of the color, shape, or positioning of your teeth? Are you afraid to yawn for fear of revealing all of those silver fillings?
Many of my patients think that their teeth are too dark, too crooked, overcrowded, chipped, or just misshapen. They want that "Hollywood" smile, and they often bring a magazine to my office, point to the cover and say, "I want a smile just like that!"
There are a wide range of cosmetic dental enhancements available that can help you achieve the look you want. Though these enhancements are only "skin deep", they can bring you pleasure, and perhaps give your self-confidence a little boost. Read more

Self examinations for halitosis. Do you have bad breath?
Do I have bad breath (also known as halitosis) and how would I know? Many patients have asked me this question. They want to know how they could find out if they have bad breath before it is revealed to them by someone they love or work with. Even more embarrassing, is the thought that they would have offended someone with their bad breath and not known it. The problem is, we are almost never able to smell our own bad breath because of a phenomenon called adaptation in which the olfactory (sense of smell) nerves in the nose become accustomed to our own smell. When this happens only those we interact with can let us know the problem exists or a dental professional can let you know about how much bad breath gases from the volatile sulfur compounds exist in your breath with a machine called a halimeter. Not all dentists have this diagnostic machine but more are adding it to their diagnostic equipment every day.
Four simple methods to help you test yourself for bad breath / halitosis are as follows:
1. First take a piece of un-waxed, un-flavored white dental floss and floss between your upper and lower back molars. Examine the floss. Is it red or brown? Wait about 45 seconds and then smell it closely. Does it have a bad odor?
2. The next test is to take a clean washcloth and then pull your tongue forward with one hand grasping the tongue with the washcloth. With the other hand and a clean white washcloth rub or scrape the furthest back portion of your tongue two or three times. Again, wait for about 45 seconds and then smell the portion of the cloth that was rubbed on the tongue. Does it have a bad smell? Read more
Dentists diagnose, prevent, and treat problems with teeth or mouth tissue. They remove decay, fill cavities, examine x rays, place protective plastic sealants on children’s teeth, straighten teeth, and repair fractured teeth. They also perform corrective surgery on gums and supporting bones to treat gum diseases. Dentists extract teeth and make models and measurements for dentures to replace missing teeth. They provide instruction on diet, brushing, flossing, the use of fluorides, and other aspects of dental care. They also administer anesthetics and write prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications. Read more
